Research

Within this course, this provided the introduction to the Mechanical Engineering senior design project. This class provided reseach Conceptual design ideas are expanded into detailed design ideas. Product realization is applied to complete hardware. Course covers Gantt charts, preliminary design, evaluation and trading matrices, detailed design and analysis, oral and technical reporting including cost analysis. Ethics and patent issues are also included. Prerequisites:

Information recieved from the course directly correlates to the design aspect of the mechanical engineering field. This is the more hands on side of engineering. Building and executing the research that you are required to do.

This class has required me to do countless research for my senior design project including correct ways to position carbon fiber and the VARTM process of creating carbon fiber. All this research is being used to build a carbon fiber skid plate for the ODU SAE Baja team to help them compete at the college level. I am applying various types of research into this class as well as a final product at the end of this semester. Not only will this allow future students to help with the ODU SAE Baja team, but will help them establish a strong base with the engineering community to help build better carbon fiber molds.
